I offer copy editing and developmental editing, either or both on the same project. You should complete developmental editing before copy editing.
Developmental editing ensures that all the pieces of your story are in place. It is “big picture” editing, looking at structure, pacing, character development, and plot, including plot holes and continuity errors. I offer actionable feedback using the Fictionary 38 Story Elements as a baseline. You will get an extensive cover letter detailing the suggestions and an annotated copy of your manuscript with comments.
Copy Editing checks grammar, spelling, consistency, and smooths out your writing. I will check for continuity errors as well. You will receive a cover letter with overarching suggestions and an annotated copy of your manuscript with comments.
With both types of edits, it is always your choice to accept or reject any suggestions I have offered. We can meet via video chat to discuss any changes you don’t understand.
Feedback from Clients:
“Bert is an expert editor; she really knows her stuff, and she helps you become a better writer in the process. Too, she’s a love to work with!”
JDL
“Bert’s a joy to work with. Terrific communication, winning projects–and once you’ve worked with her, you’re part of her tribe forever. She’s a gem.”
SB
“Bert is incredibly easy to work with and made my work sparkle with grammatic perfection. And no plot holes here. Everything was clean, neat, and awesome after she got her hands on it.”
MT
“Instead of chopping up your story, Bert asks you to make changes she believes will make the story better. Then YOU chop up your story. It’s a win for everybody: the writer, the editor, and the reader.”

Yes, I know I should have a script to allow you to just click the email address and mask it from bots. But I am a writer and editor, not a programmer or a web developer. I know my strengths. ↩︎
